Real Madrid are continuing to keep tabs on Pau Torres and reportedly scouted the 24-year-old Spanish defender in the recent game with Villarreal.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid continue to hold an interest in Pau Torres. In fact, the Merengues recently scouted the Spanish international in a La Liga game against Villarreal and will continue to closely monitor his progress over the course of the season.

Pau Torres has made quite the impression at Villarreal since completing his loan spell at Malaga in the 2018/19 season. The following campaign indeed proved to be one where he enjoyed his breakthrough at Estadio de la Ceramica and he has since become a regular feature for the Spanish national side as well in addition to being a mainstay at the back for the Yellow Submarine.

To date, Torres has made 92 appearances for Villarreal, chipping in with five goals and four assists in the process. His progress has not gone unnoticed either, with some of the biggest clubs in the world setting their sights on the 24-year-old since over a year now. And one of his prospective suitors are Real Madrid.

Real Madrid took the odd decision of not signing two central defensive options despite the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window. Instead, only David Alaba arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Austrian international arriving on a free transfer after running down his contract with Bayern Munich.

While the 28-year-old has made an instant impact at the club, the fact remains that Carlo Ancelotti has just three reliable centre-backs at his disposal. And upon closer look, it becomes clearer that Nacho is on the wrong side of 30 and only a backup option at best, which explains why signing a central defender should be imperative for Real Madrid.

As a result, Los Blancos have been linked with several centre-backs since the summer transfer window slammed shut, with the interest in Torres now reigniting. And it now appears that Real Madrid closely scouted the 24-year-old in a recent La Liga outing against Villarreal.

Torres was one of the shining lights in the game, as Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw by Unai Emery’s men. What now remains to be seen is if Los Blancos firm up their interest in the Spanish defender in the weeks and months to come, with the player set to be monitored over the course of the season.
