Leicester City are prepared to bring ex-Liverpool star Luis Alberto back to the Premier League, with Brendan Rodgers keen on the Lazio midfielder.

According to Fichajes, Leicester City have expressed interest in Luis Alberto. The Lazio midfielder has caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers with his performances at Lazio and the former Liverpool head coach is prepared to target him as a potential replacement for James Maddison or Youri Tielemans.

A product of the Sevilla youth academy, Alberto is famously known for his spell at Liverpool. He had initially joined the club in 2013 for a fee of €8 million. But he endured a rather unfortunate spell in Merseyside, featuring in just 12 competitive games for the Reds and spending two loan spells at Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna.

He was eventually offloaded in 2016, as he moved to Lazio for just €4 million. The move turned out to be a bargain for the Serie A giants, though, as the Spaniard has since notched up 182 competitive appearances for the club, being involved in a total of 87 goals.

Alberto has turned into a real leader for the club, impressing the onlookers with his technical prowess and ability to create chances for his team. His exploits have now put Leicester City on red alert, with the Foxes already facing a battle to keep hold of star midfielder Tielemans, who is a target for Manchester United and Liverpool.

James Maddison, too, was a summer target for Arsenal and though a move did not materialise, he could yet leave the club. The Foxes are thus scouting potential replacement, with Alberto emerging at the top of the list.

As mentioned earlier, the 28-year-old Spaniard has a stellar track record at Lazio. In addition to his productivity, he offers a wealth of experience at the highest level of football. Perhaps most importantly, he has worked under Rodgers before during their time together at Liverpool.

It could be useful in Alberto’s bid to settle in quickly in the Premier League. He is not the only option for Leicester City, though, with the Foxes also interested in the services of Manchester United star Jesse Lingard as they look to add more reinforcements in the offensive unit.

Rodgers can realistically sign both as Lingard is still yet to sign a new contract at Old Trafford while Luis Alberto may welcome the opportunity to return to the Premier League to take care of unfinished business.
