Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 22-year-old Spanish international Pedro Porro, over a move next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid’s search for a right-back has taken them to Sporting CP, with Pedro Porro emerging on their radar. The Merengues are considering a move for the 22-year-old Spanish international over a move in next summer’s transfer window.

Pedro Porro is currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon from Manchester City, having joined the Portuguese giants in the summer of 2020 and has since made massive strides in his career. A mainstay in the defensive unit at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, the 22-year-old has turned out 44 times for the Lions while chipping in with six goals and three assists along the way.

His progress at Sporting has also helped Porro break into the Spanish national side, making his debut earlier this year. At club level, it looks like he is set to join Sporting permanently next year. At the same time, though, his advent has been noticed by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid appear to be in the market for a right-back ahead of next summer’s transfer window, and for a good reason. While Dani Carvajal has been a stalwart for Los Blancos for years now, his injury woes have been compounding in frustrating fashion, with the Spanish international on the sidelines currently once again.

Lucas Vazquez has, as a result, played as a makeshift right-back, a role he has essayed brilliantly over the past year or so. However, Vazquez is exactly that – a makeshift option – which is why it is a prudent move for Real Madrid to scour the market for a right-back, especially with Alvaro Odriozola not being in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

To that end, the Spanish giants have been linked with Youcef Atal, Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold, among others, in recent times. And now, Porro has popped up on their radar, with the 22-year-old a viable target as he could be a long-term solution on the right side of the Real Madrid defence.

There have been suggestions that Achraf Hakimi is also keen on returning to Real Madrid one day, although the club themselves do not appear to be chasing a move for their former academy ace yet. As for their pursuit of Porro, it remains to be seen if the Spanish international ends up arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.
