Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old French defender Nordi Mukiele from RB Leipzig next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Nordi Mukiele is the subject of interest from Manchester United over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The 23-year-old French defender is being eyed as a potential alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is still not entirely convincing at Old Trafford.

Nordi Mukiele joined RB Leipzig from Montpellier in the summer of 2018 and has since made rapid progress in the first-team setup at the Red Bull Arena. A mainstay for the Bundesliga giants, the player has impressed with his versatility to play as a centre-back, a right-back, a central midfielder and a right winger.

To date, the 23-year-old has made 115 appearances for Leipzig, with nine goals and seven assists to show for his efforts. Mukiele’s progress has also earned him his debut for the French national side, featuring against Finland earlier this month. His advent has also caught the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Manchester United setting their sights on him.

Manchester United have had to grapple with the problematic right-sided issue for years now. And while the problem could be mitigated to a large extent in the years to come if Jadon Sancho ends up being an excellent addition. However, the right-back spot remains an issue for the Red Devils, especially with AS Roma being linked with Diogo Dalot.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s offensive output often leaving a lot to be desired, it is clear that Manchester United could do with a right-back addition, especially if Dalot ends up leaving the club. As a result, the Premier League heavyweights have been linked with several right-backs of late, including Valentino Livramento.

Now, though, Mukiele has popped up on Manchester United’s radar, with the Red Devils looking at him with the view of signing him next summer. It is also important to note that the 23-year-old will have entered the final year of his deal with Leipzig, which could open up the possibility of a cut-price move.

For now, it looks like Mukiele is a player who has a lot of admirers at Manchester United, and it remains to seen whether they launch the offensive for the French international next summer. If so, it will be interesting to see where Mukiele slots in when he arrives at Old Trafford.
