Barcelona are reportedly weighing up the possibility of signing Arsenal contract rebel Alexandre Lacazette on a Bosman move next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona still hold an interest in signing Alexandre Lacazette, with a Bosman move for next summer’s transfer window being planned. The French striker is set to run down his contract with Arsenal before departing the Emirates as a free agent.

Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon in the summer of 2017 and has since endured a roller-coaster of a ride at the Emirates. Initially the first-choice striker and a prolific customer for the Gunners, the 30-year-old has had to share game-time since the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, although the duo has played together on several occasions as well.

In recent times, though, Lacazette’s output has reduced drastically, although he has added facets to his game as well. To date, the French striker has amassed a tally of 67 goals and 23 assists in 173 appearances for Arsenal. However, his future at the Emirates is uncertain after entering the final year of his current contract. Such a situation has alerted Barcelona.

Barcelona had, in fact, been linked with Lacazette in the summer transfer window before they chose to sign Luuk de Jong on loan from Sevilla instead. However, the Dutch striker does not really inspire a lot of confidence while Martin Braithwaite has become a long-term absentee after recently sustaining an injury.

The third striker in the squad, Sergio Aguero, is yet to make his Barcelona debut owing to his own fitness issues. And with the Argentine international now in the twilight of his career, Barcelona will be well served if they signed another striker in a future transfer window.

To that end, Lacazette is a viable target for Barcelona, who are even ready to swoop him away from Arsenal in the January transfer window despite the fact that they will have to shell out a cut-price sum to land him. However, the possibility of signing the Arsenal contract rebel on a free transfer next summer remains as well.

Meanwhile, there are rumours that Lacazette is set to begin talks with Atletico Madrid as well, which ought to put Barcelona in a tricky position. What now remains to be seen is if Barcelona end up accelerating the procedure of landing the Arsenal contract rebel or if they wait till next summer to sign him on a Bosman move.
