Real Sociedad are reportedly considering the possibility of re-signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Alvaro Odriozola could well have played his final game for Real Madrid. The 25-year-old defender, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina, is wanted by former club Real Sociedad in next summer’s transfer window.

Alvaro Odriozola joined Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018, potentially as an eventual successor for Dani Carvajal. However, the Spaniard has had to suffice with being a bit-part player for the Merengues, only getting a run of games when Carvajal has been unavailable, with that status also reducing last term, when Lucas Vazquez emerged as a viable right-back candidate.

To date, Odriozola has made 43 appearances for Real Madrid while chipping in with three goals and 10 assists along the way. And currently, he is on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season at Fiorentina, who beat Tottenham to secure his services late in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old defender has made a decent enough start to life with La Viola, having amassed three appearances already for the Serie A outfit. However, it looks like Odriozola could soon be on his way back to a former club, with Real Sociedad keen on re-signing him from Real Madrid next summer.

The interest from Real Sociedad is somewhat interesting, as they already have two right-backs on board in the form of Andoni Gorosabel and Joseba Zaldua. So, it is hard to see where Odriozola would fit in the scheme of things unless either of the aforementioned full-backs gets offloaded next year.

As for Real Madrid, it appears unlikely that they will stand in Odriozola’s way if Real Sociedad come calling next summer, seeing as they are keen on signing a right-back themselves amid recent links with Denzel Dumfries.

For now, it looks like Odriozola has popped up on the radar of Real Sociedad over a potential move in next summer’s transfer window, and it remains to be seen if the Spanish defender’s forgettable stint with Real Madrid comes to an end in 2022.
