English goalkeeping ace Dean Henderson is reportedly eyeing a loan move away from Manchester United in January.

According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Dean Henderson is eager to secure regular game-time at the earliest possible opportunity after losing his spot to David de Gea at the onset of the 2021/22 season. So, if he cannot usurp the Spanish goalkeeping ace, the 24-year-old will seek a loan move away from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Dean Henderson joined the Manchester United academy aged 14 back in 2011 before subsequently making swift progress in their youth setup. However, the English goalkeeper had to wait till last season to finally earn his breakthrough in the first-team setup at Old Trafford following successful loan spells at Stockport Country, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United.

It is the final two loan spells – both at Sheffield United – that finally impressed the decision makers at Manchester United, who brought him onboard at Old Trafford in the wake of David de Gea’s struggles for a couple of seasons. With the Spaniard blowing hot and cold once again last term, Henderson managed to usurp him for a brief period.

To date, the 24-year-old has made 26 appearances for Manchester United, conceding just 22 goals while keeping 13 clean sheets in the process. The start of the 2021/22 season, though, has not been kind to Henderson, who has now lost his spot to de Gea after testing positive for COVID-19 at the onset of the campaign.

The Spanish international has since grabbed his opportunities with both hands, most recently impressing in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham United on the weekend. With de Gea going from strength to strength, the chances are starting to run out for Henderson, who might have to suffice with starts in cup competitions.

Henderson, though, is eager to secure regular first-team action, and could have his hand forced if he cannot achieve so at Old Trafford. With that in mind, the English international is considering the prospect of a loan exit in the January transfer window, although it is unclear as to who his suitors might be.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are set to begin their Carabao Cup campaign against West Ham on Wednesday, with Henderson having the chance of making his first appearance of the season. As for his desire to seek a loan move, it will be interesting to see how things progress in the coming weeks and months and if he can once again topple de Gea to become the new Manchester United no. 1.
