Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are in line for a start while Alex Telles should return as Manchester United take on West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United will be hoping to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup when they lock horns with fellow Premier League club West Ham United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Heading into the game, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed an injury boost as left-back Alex Telles has returned to full fitness and is in contention to feature against the Hammers. “Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well,” the Norwegian confirmed in an interview with the club media.

However, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo remain sidelined while question marks remain over the availability of Edinson Cavani, who missed the last game with a minor injury. There is, however, more good news as Dean Henderson and Phil Jones are both in contention as well for the first time this season, and for the first time in 20 months in case of the latter.

Henderson should get the nod ahead of David de Gea in goal on Wednesday, although summer signing Tom Heaton is also in contention. There will be wholesale changes in the backline as the fit-again Telles and Diogo Dalot ought to come in as the two full-backs while Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly pair up at the centre, with Jones only likely to be on the bench.

Further changes are expected up ahead in the middle of the park as Nemanja Matic is in line to get a run-out with Scott McTominay making way after having only recently returned from an injury. Fred, however, should keep hold of his spot and look to use this game to find some form after a few scratchy displays.

Donny van de Beek, who has been very unlucky since arriving at Old Trafford last year, should also get a rare start in the No. 10 role, with Bruno Fernandes making way. Jadon Sancho should also feature from the kickoff after having not started at the weekend in the league game against the Hammers.

Solskjaer has already confirmed that Jesse Lingard, who scored the winning goal against West Ham, is set to start on Wednesday night. “He’ll play, of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes,” the Norwegian had revealed after the win on Sunday. The England international should slot in on the right flank, with Sancho on the left while Anthony Martial spearheads the United attack.

Mason Greenwood and academy graduate Anthony Elanga would be options from the bench while it would not be a surprise if Cristiano Ronaldo was rested altogether.

Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson, Dalot, Bailly, Lindelof, Telles, Fred, Matic, Lingard, van de Beek, Sancho, Martial.
