Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old Brazilian forward Antony, who is affectionately termed the “new Neymar”.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are interested in signing Antony from Ajax. The 21-year-old Brazilian forward has been termed as the “new Neymar” and has previously suggested that he would like to play in La Liga in future.

Antony joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in February 2020 and as it later turned out, he ended up being the long-term successor for talisman Hakim Ziyech following his move to Chelsea last summer. The Brazilian forward has gone some way to fill the void of the Moroccan international since then, and is now a regular feature for the Dutch giants.

To date, the 21-year-old has amassed a tally of 11 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances for Ajax. And while he might not be as prolific as him, Antony has been drawing comparisons to Neymar, an icon in his country at present. His progress has also invariably been noticed by Barcelona.

Barcelona have been trying to re-sign Neymar ever since he first shocked the world by joining Paris Saint-Germain in a world record move four years ago. That ship seems to have sailed now, especially following Lionel Messi’s own move to PSG this past summer.

As iterated earlier, Antony is being termed as the “new Neymar” and if he indeed proves to be a player of the ilk of his compatriot, Barcelona will likely be well served making a move for the young Brazilian forward.
