Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 27-year-old Brazilian international Marquinhos in their search for a new centre-back.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid have created a shortlist of five centre-backs to add to their ranks in a future transfer window. To that end, Marquinhos is one of the options to have popped up on the Spanish giants’ radar, with Paris Saint-Germain valuing him at around €75 million.

Marquinhos has come leaps and bounds since joining Paris Saint-Germain from AS Roma in the summer of 2013. A prodigious defender eight years ago, the 27-year-old has gone a long way in fulfilling the promise of his talent, becoming a pivotal figure for PSG, both in defence and midfield.

To date, the Brazilian international has made 327 appearances for the French heavyweights, with 31 goals and eight assists to show for his efforts. Last year, Marquinhos also reached the pinnacle of his time at PSG, having become the club captain following the departure of Thiago Silva. And his exploits have piqued the interest of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are believed to be scouring the transfer market for a central defensive reinforcement, possibly keeping next summer’s transfer window in mind, and for good reason, as David Alaba was the only defensive arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu despite the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

So, it is clear that there is a shortage of quality centre-back options at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, especially with Nacho on the wrong side of 30. So, it is not too surprising that the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Matthias Ginter and Milan Skriniar have popped up on Real Madrid’s radar of late.

Pau Torres is another centre-back being tracked by Real Madrid, who have now turned their attention towards Marquinhos as well. Priced at around €75 million by PSG, the 27-year-old is one of five options being considered by Real Madrid.

Having said that, his €75 million valuation could prove to be beyond Los Blancos’ means, especially if they shell out a big sum on Erling Haaland. For now, the Brazilian international is being viewed as a possible central defensive reinforcement and it remains to be seen if Real Madrid do make a move for him in the coming windows.
