Liverpool are reportedly plotting a swoop for Brighton & Hove Albion midfield mainstay Yves Bissouma in the summer of 2022.

It has been less than a month since the summer transfer window of 2021 slammed shut, but Liverpool are already planning for the next year if reports from Spanish publication Fichajes are to be believed, with Brighton & Hove Albion ace, Yves Bissouma, emerging as an early target for 2022.

Bissouma has been with the Seagulls since three years now, having signed from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille. During his time at the Amex Stadium, the 25-year-old has gradually developed into one of the most consistent and reliable central midfielders in the Premier League, which led to strong interest in his services this past summer.

Indeed, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal were all linked with a move for Bissouma in the recently concluded transfer window, but a move did not materialise and the Malian international ended up staying put with Brighton. However, it seems like the interest in him remains intact, with Liverpool already planning a move for him for the next summer.

Liverpool had a fairly quiet transfer window this year, with Ibrahima Konate being the only player to arrive at Anfield. Despite having lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, the Reds decided not to replace the Netherlands international. Instead, Jurgen Klopp decided to put his faith in Naby Keita, which seems to be paying off well early in the season.

Nonetheless, Liverpool will need to delve into the transfer market for another top-quality midfielder next summer given as Jordan Henderson and Thiago are into their thirties and have had fitness issues recently. Furthermore, both Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have had sketchy injury records as well.

And with James Milner in the final phase of his career as well, it only makes sense for Klopp and Liverpool to recruit another midfielder next year to refresh their options. A move for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie has been touted quite a fair bit of late. But it seems like Bissouma is also very much in the plans of the Merseyside giants as they look to bolster their midfield.

Able to play as a holding midfielder or a No.8, the 25-year-old is adept at breaking up play in the middle and even exhibits top-notch ball-carrying abilities as well. Given his proven pedigree in the Premier League, Bissouma would represent a great investment for Liverpool should they make a move for him next summer.
