Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Bayern Munich and France winger Kingsley Coman.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur could battle it out for the signing of Bayern Munich’s French attacker Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2022.

Coman has been with Bayern Munich since 2015 when he arrived on a two-year loan deal from Juventus. The 25-year-old’s transfer to the Allianz Arena was made permanent in 2017 and while he had to bide his time for a regular run in the side, the Frenchman has grown into a key cog in the side, racking up 204 appearances in which he has 41 goals and 50 assists.

However, Coman’s future with the Bavarian giants has been cast under a cloud of uncertainty as his contract expires in the summer of 2023 and talks of a renewal haven’t gone as per plans. Furthermore, the report adds that the former PSG ace could target a change of scenery in search of more regular playing time as well.

This development has alerted a number of top clubs across Europe, with Tottenham and Liverpool among the teams lining up a move to sign the 25-year-old. Liverpool’s interest in Coman is not something new, with the Reds having been linked with a move for the Frenchman during the summer transfer window as well.

A move, however, failed to materialise. But, Liverpool’s interest in Coman has not faded and understandably so as Jurgen Klopp looks to add more ammunition to his attacking arsenal. Both Salah and Mane are closing in on their thirties while Roberto Firmino has seen his goal returns dwindle of late.

With Divock Origi facing an uncertain future and Xherdan Shaqiri having already left the club, there is room for another attacking addition to be made at Anfield. And Coman, considering his age, proven pedigree and winning mentality can be a top signing for the Merseyside giants.

As for Tottenham, the Lilywhites did strengthen their attack with the signing of Bryan Gil while Steven Bergwijn seems to have found some form this term as well. However, recent games have shown how over-reliant they can be on Son Heung-min and with Gil still very much in the formative years of his career, a more experienced option to shoulder the attacking burden alongside Son and Harry Kane.

A move for Adama Traore was mooted throughout the summer but led to nowhere. Given Coman’s contract situation and willingness to leave Bayern, he could prove to be an achievable target, although Champions League football could play a pivotal factor in the Frenchman’s decision to move.

Apart from Liverpool and Tottenham, Coman’s former club, Juventus are also keen as per the report. It now remains to be seen if the 25-year-old does end up leaving Bayern Munich and if so, where he ends up next summer.
