Manchester United are reportedly set to rival Liverpool, Manchester City and Liverpool in the pursuit of Jude Bellingham.

According to a recent report from The Sun, Manchester United are among the clubs interested in the services of Jude Bellingham next summer. The Borussia Dortmund whizkid has become one of the most talented young players in world football and is attracting interest from his homeland.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Bellingham all summer and are even willing to splash big bucks on the young midfielder. But it appears Manchester United, too, are ready to rival their Premier League in an attempt to lure the former Birmingham City starlet away from Dortmund.

The report does add that a move is unlikely next summer as the Black and Yellows are forecasted to sanction the sale of Erling Haaland, who is another target for Manchester City. A lot might depend on how much the Bundesliga giants receive for the talented forward, with recent reports from Spanish media suggesting there is no release clause in the Norwegian’s contract.

Bellingham himself is not very keen on leaving Dortmund at this stage in his career. He has already emerged as a fan-favourite due to the charisma, charm and aggression he provides on the pitch. At the age of just 18, the Englishman is slowly establishing himself as one of the leadership figures at Dortmund, which is quite extraordinary.

Manchester United have been attracted by such maturity as they look to sign Bellingham as a potential long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic and a direct upgrade over the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay. The Red Devils have received a lot of flak for their failure to bring in a defensive midfield in the summer, so the board will be under pressure to deliver.

Liverpool, too, are interested in the Englishman as they look to add some youthful exuberance to the squad. Former striker Michael Owen has recently criticised the Reds for relying too much on ageing players and the addition of Bellingham may solve that problem, at least in the midfield department.

These clubs have no shortage of alternatives, though, as both Manchester United and Liverpool are also in contention to sign Youri Tielemans next summer. The Belgian is experienced in the Premier League and will be a cost-effective option for both the English giants. As for Bellingham, it will be interesting to see if he returns to England if any of the three giants make their move.
