Bruno Fernandes is reportedly set to ignore interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign a five-year deal with Manchester United.

According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Bruno Fernandes is firmly committed to Manchester United and has no interest in departing Old Trafford. As a result, the Portuguese international, is set to sign a new five-year contract with the Red Devils, rebuffing interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid in the process.

Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and has since been the Red Devils’ talisman. Having taken little time to become a key figure at Old Trafford, the Premier League heavyweights are eager to hand a new deal to the 27-year-old, who has 44 goals and 26 assists in 85 appearances for the club.

The Portuguese international, though, has been attracting the interest of two of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing him. However, Bruno Fernandes has no interest in joining either of the clubs and is firmly committed to Manchester United.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Pedri shoulder almost all the responsibility in the midfield unit. As a result, it has become imperative for the Blaugrana to sign a creative midfielder, with Dani Olmo one of their targets.

To that end, Bruno Fernandes would have been a viable target for Barcelona, who could have landed the Manchester United midfielder. Real Madrid, on the other hand, could well have been eyeing Bruno Fernandes owing to the fact that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are both on the wrong side of 30.

Modric is, in fact, in the final phase of his career, meaning a succession plan needs to be laid down, despite the arrival of Eduardo Camavinga. As a result, Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Paul Pogba. And as it now turns out, Pogba’s Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes was also on their radar.

However, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid will be able to land the 27-year-old, who is set to sign a new five-year contract with Manchester United worth £250,000-a-week. In fact, the official announcement could be made in a few weeks’ time. As for Barcelona and Real Madrid, they must now turn their attention elsewhere in search of a creative reinforcement.
