Barcelona failed in attempt to prise Karim Adeyemi, who is also a target for Liverpool at present, to Camp Nou back in 2019.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are currently hot on the trails of Karim Adeyemi over a move in the future. However, the Blaugrana have already tried to sign the Red Bull Salzburg striker once back in 2019 while at present, Liverpool are also giving them company.

Karim Adeyemi is a star on the rise, having made a rapid impression since returning to Red Bull Salzburg from his loan spell at FC Liefering last year. The 19-year-old has especially been impressive at the onset of 2021/22, having scored seven goals and provided two assists in 11 outings so far.

His progress has also been noticed at international level, with Adeyemi recently making his debut for the German national side, scoring on debut against Armenia. Suffice to say, he has done enough to capture the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona and Liverpool keen on signing him.

The interest from Liverpool makes sense, considering Roberto Firmino’s output has been questioned a fair bit lately. In addition, it is also important to note that the first-choice attacking trio is reaching the end of each of their peak years, meaning signing Adeyemi could facilitate a smooth transition in the years to come.

As a result, it is hardly surprising that there are claims about Liverpool being poised to begin talks over a January move. Barcelona, on the other hand, already have two strikers who are approaching the final phase of their careers, with both Sergio Aguero and Luuk de Jong well past their peak.

In addition, Martin Braithwaite is likely to be offloaded by Barcelona next summer, meaning a spot or two could open up in the Barcelona attacking unit. This slot can potentially be filled by Adeyemi, who could then become the long-term solution as the central striker for Barcelona.

However, it now turns out that Barcelona have been tracking the German international for over two years now, having tried to sign him in 2019. The move had failed to materialise back then, but it remains to be seen if Barcelona can win the race to sign Adeyemi in the coming windows, or if Liverpool or some other suitor ends up swooping him away instead.
