Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus are among the teams keeping a keen eye on Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette as his contract winds down

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, AC Milan and Juventus are keeping a keen eye on Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette whose contract at the Emirates is up next summer.

The Frenchman was once among the most feared strikers in Ligue 1. His move to Arsenal has paid dividends, but it has not been an unqualified success as one may have thought.

Now 30, he appears to have one big move left in him. Lacezette appears to be seeking a new challenge, one that can help him challenge for trophies on a regular basis. Arsenal, for their part are in no position to compete. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently undergoing a restructuring and look a million miles away from being a top six side, let alone a contender.

It remains unlikely that Lacazette will stay on at Arsenal. He is not short of suitors and has several top teams keen on his services. Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, AC Milan and Juventus all remain keen on the Frenchman and can offer him a better shot at success in comparison to Arsenal.

The Spanish champions will need to replace Luis Suarez, who is now 34. Age is slowly yet steadily catching up with the Uruguayan star who led the club to the La Liga title last season. The same can be said of Milan, who will eventually need to find a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Meanwhile, Juventus have not got going this season and also lost their top scorer in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alvaro Morata is an industrious striker who is excellent on his day. Bringing in Lacazette, that too on free will give the Turin giants more options should they need it. More so, the Italians have an eye for picking our bargains in the Bosman market, and the 30-year-old could be the latest addition to the list.

Despite his age, Lacazette has a good few years left in him. Olivier Giroud, now at Milan has shown that one can perform even into their thirties provided they play to their strengths. Whether Lacazette will follow in his compatriot’s shoes remains to be seen.

Losing Lacazette will certainly be a blow for Arsenal. The Gunners have a number of excellent young players coming through. However, the lack of veterans who can show leadership in a crisis is sorely lacking. Whether the Frenchman’s potential exit is what it takes for young Gabriel Martinelli to garner more playtime remains to be seen.
