Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a cut-price move for 26-year-old Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar, who could leave Inter Milan next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid appear to be eager to bolster the heart of their defence in next summer’s transfer window. To that end, the Spanish giants have set their sights on Milan Skriniar, who could be set to leave Serie A champions Inter Milan next year.

Milan Skriniar has blossomed into one of the best defenders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017. Over the last four years, the 26-year-old has been a regular feature for the Nerazzurri and played a key role as they lifted the Serie A title after an excruciating wait last season.

To date, Skriniar has made 170 appearances for Inter while chipping in with eight goals and four assists along the way. His progress in recent years has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe vying for his signature at some point or another in the last few transfer windows. And as things stand, Real Madrid are hot on his trails.

Real Madrid oddly chose to not bolster their defence in the summer transfer window with the addition of a second potential centre-back option despite the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. While David Alaba is at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, there is very little quality beyond him, Eder Militao and Nacho.

Add to it the fact that Nacho is now into his thirties and Real Madrid would be well served with the addition of a centre-back, with Skriniar a viable target. That the 26-year-old could potentially arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu on a cut-price fee further makes him an appealing target.

Skriniar, though, is not the only centre-back that Real Madrid have their sights set on, with Jules Kounde and Antonio Rudiger also on their radar. While Rudiger will potentially arrive on a Bosman move, Kounde is likely to be the most expensive of the options that Los Blancos are eyeing.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see which way Real Madrid turn towards as the weeks and months of the 2021/22 season wear on. For now, Skriniar is one of three centre-backs that the Spanish giants have their sights set on, with a move for a centre-back likely to be made next summer.
