Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old Spanish international Ansu from Barcelona to bolster their attacking unit.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ansu Fati is the subject of interest from Liverpool over a move in a future transfer window. The 18-year-old Barcelona prodigy is being eyed as a potential replacement for the underperforming Sadio Mane.

Ansu Fati has captured the imagination right from his days at La Masia before impressing further upon breaking into the Barcelona first-team setup in 2019. After a strong maiden campaign at the Nou Camp, the teenage prodigy even earned his Spain bow, although 2020/21 was a forgettable season after he sustained a long-term injury.

To date, Fati has made 43 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with 13 goals and five assists in the process. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with a number of clubs already being linked with Fati since his advent at the Catalan club. And the latest club to have shown an interest in the 18-year-old whizkid are Liverpool.

Liverpool oddly chose not to bolster their attacking unit in the summer transfer window despite offloading Xherdan Shaqiri. While Takumi Minamino has returned from his loan spell at Southampton and is now a backup options, it is also important to note that the Reds will lose Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for around a month at the turn of the year.

That is because the duo will be joining their national sides in all likelihood for the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving Liverpool shortchanged in attack. So, signing someone like Fati makes sense, especially considering he has entered the final year of his Barcelona contract.

So, if Liverpool make their move for him, the teenager could be available on a cut-price fee if the Blaugrana have not managed to tie him down to new deal. Like Liverpool, Manchester City have been linked with the Barcelona prodigy, having been offered the chance to sign him, although the Premier League champions are unlikely to do anything about it.

As for Liverpool, they have been linked with a myriad of attacking players of late, including Harvey Barnes, Karim Adeyemi and Kingsley Coman. Fati, though, could be a game-changer of a signing akin to Salah, making him the ideal replacement for Mane, although it remains to be seen if Barcelona are unable to tie him down to a new contract.
