Ferland Mendy has reportedly emerged as a target for Serie A giants Juventus, who are eyeing the Real Madrid defender as a replacement for Alex Sandro.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juventus are interested in signing Ferland Mendy in a future transfer window. Valued at around €50 million by Real Madrid, the French defender is being viewed as a long-term replacement for Alex Sandro.

Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2019 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders on show in La Liga. The first-choice left-back for Los Blancos when fit, the 26-year-old has made 70 appearances for the club while chipping in with three goals and four assists.

Currently on his way back from a long layoff, the French defender appears to be facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid owing to the advent of Miguel Gutierrez and the fact that Marcelo is now the club captain. Such a situation seems to have piqued the interest of Juventus.

The Bianconeri are currently in a transitional period following the return of Massimiliano Allegri as the new first-team boss. With Allegri’s return, some big changes are set to be made to the senior side at the Allianz Stadium, especially following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Manchester United.

The transition seems to be rather slow following a poor start to the 2021/22 campaign, with Napoli recently handing them a 2-1 defeat. However, Allegri is eager to see his project through, with left-back emerging as a position that he wants to address desperately in the coming windows, owing to the decline of Alex Sandro.

To that end, Mendy has emerged as a viable target for the Serie A giants, with the Real Madrid defender likely to arrive at the peak of his powers if signed. However, Juventus will need to shell out quite a handful of a sum if they are to land the 26-year-old, with Real Madrid set to demand €50 million for him.

What now remains to be seen is if the Bianconeri are ready to shell out €50 million for the French international if they launch the offensive for him. What will also be interesting to see is if Real Madrid choose to cash in on him and back Marcelo and Gutierrez if Juventus make their move.
