Liverpool have made Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham their priority target next summer, amid interest from Manchester United.

According to Daily Star, Liverpool are ready to go all out for Jude Bellingham next summer. It appears Jurgen Klopp is keen on making a statement signing in an attempt to supplement his squad, and the Borussia Dortmund starlet has emerged as an ideal option.

The club is even weighing up a bid of £80 million, which could break Virgil van Dijk’s transfer record of £75 million when he joined the club from Southampton in 2018. However, the Reds are set to face stiff competition from Manchester United, in the pursuit of Bellingham.

The Red Devils were linked with a move for the Englishman last summer, with Sir Alex Ferguson even giving him a guided tour of the Carrington training facility. The youngster, though, opted to join Dortmund instead and the move has paid off well, with the midfielder notching up 51 competitive appearances and most notably winning the DFB Pokal during his debut campaign in Germany.

In just a year, Bellingham has established himself as one of the finest young talents in world football. It has put the two Premier League giants on red alert, with Liverpool, for one, prepared to make a big investment after a somewhat stale transfer window this summer.

It is apparent that Klopp is desperate to sign a new midfielder who can replace the departed Gini Wijnaldum for the long term. They have been linked with a move for Franck Kessie, but AC Milan reportedly want Thiago Alcantara in a swap deal, in order to facilitate the departure.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are another potential destination for Bellingham. The Red Devils have garnered a lot of clout recently, having secured the services of prodigal son Cristiano Ronaldo. A move to Old Trafford should also hand the midfielder with the opportunity to reunite with his former Dortmund pal Jadon Sancho.

However, it is fair to reference that Bellingham is quite happy with his life in Dortmund. He is already proving to be a real asset for the Bundesliga giants, and the club definitely has the means to keep him around for at least two years, which essentially means that Liverpool or even Manchester United, for that matter, will have to fork out much more than £80 million to secure his services.

It will be interesting to see how the 18-year-old fares at Dortmund this season, as the Black and Yellows, push for the Bundesliga title under Marco Rose. Any sort of success will certainly make the former Birmingham starlet a favourite to star for England in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
