Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah who is demanding a new bumper contract from the Merseyside giants.

According to a report from the Mirror, La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah amid talks of a new contract for the Egyptian international.

Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 in a deal worth £36 million and has developed into one of the most feared forwards in the game since. A chief protagonist in the Merseysiders’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League success in 2018/19 and 2019/20, respectively, the 29-year-old has plundered 127 goals and 49 assists in 206 for the Reds.

Salah has started the new season with a bang, registering four goal involvements in just three Premier League outings. The former Chelsea forward, though, sees his current contract expire in less than two years, and Liverpool are intent on tying him down to a new deal. A breakthrough in talks has not been reached, though, as he is demanding a whopping £500,000-a-week wages.

Amidst the developing situation, Real Madrid have shown an interest in the services of Salah, as per the report. It is no secret that the La Liga bigwigs have had their eye on the Liverpool superstar for some time now, having been linked with a move for the 29-year-old in the past. And should he enter the final year of his contract next summer, they will have an incentive to push to sign the attacker from Liverpool.

Real Madrid have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements for a while and even failed in their bid to land Kylian Mbappe during the summer transfer window. However, with the Frenchman in the final year of his deal at PSG, Los Blancos hope to reach a pre-contract agreement with him over a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Along with Mbappe, Real Madrid also want to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund to build a ‘Galactico strikeforce. However, a move for the Norwegian could be tricky given the vast number of clubs interested in signing him. This could prompt the Spanish capital club to look at other options, with Salah potentially emerging as one.

As things stand, there have been no indications that Salah wants to leave Liverpool. However, the salary demands could be an issue given Liverpool’s wage structure. Whether that leaves the window open for Real Madrid to swoop in to sign the 29-year-old or if the Reds and their star man are able to come to an agreement on a new deal before that remains to be seen.
