Liverpool have reportedly made contact with the agent of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, who is also a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur and PSG.
According to a report from Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool have entered the fray for the signing of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, who is also being pursued by rivals Tottenham Hotspur as well as PSG.
Kessie has grown into one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Atalanta in 2017, initially on a loan deal before making the transfer permanent in 2019. The 24-year-old was a major reason why the Rossoneri were able to challenge for the Serie A title last season and finished second in the league, making their long-awaited return to Champions League for this season.
Kessie finished the 2020/21 term with a tally of 14 goals and six assists from 50 games. An all-action midfielder, who can make vital contributions at both ends of the pitch, the Ivory Coast international has entered the final year of his contract with Milan and is claimed to have rejected an offer of a new deal from the Serie A heavyweights.
This has sparked several clubs into action, with Tottenham one of the teams that are closely monitoring the situation. In fact, it has also been claimed that the north London giants are already preparing a contract offer for the 24-year-old as they look to snare him away on a free transfer next summer.
With the future of Tanguy Ndombele under serious question and Harry Winks not entirely establishing himself as a regular, someone like Kessie would represent a great addition for Tottenham next summer. However, they are now set to face competition from fellow Premier League outfit Liverpool for the signing of the AC Milan midfielder.
Liverpool had a largely quiet summer transfer window, bringing in just Ibrahima Konate. But, the Reds did not replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who left Anfield for PSG. And with James Milner not getting any younger and captain Jordan Henderson’s recent fitness issues, adding a powerhouse like Kessie would certainly be a step in the right direction.
To that end, Liverpool are said to have made contact with the 24-year-old’s agent to assess the possibility of a free transfer next summer. Apart from these two clubs, PSG are also said to be in the mix for the AC Milan star, while Chelsea, too, have shown some degree of interest as well.
What now remains to be seen is if any of Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea or PSG are able to swoop Kessie away from Milan next summer or whether he decides to sign an extension with the Rossoneri.
