Chelsea are working out the possibility of signing Bayern Munich ace Leroy Sane, but face competition from Tottenham and Arsenal.

According to Express, Chelsea have expressed the desire to sign Leroy Sane. Thomas Tuchel is believed to be a huge admirer of the Bayern Munich forward, but given the attacking talents he currently has at his disposal, he may have to resort to a potential swap deal.

Moreover, the club could face stiff competition from London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. The report does state that the Blues have the advantage as they can offer the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League in addition to being the reigning European champions.

Formerly of Manchester City, Sane has had a difficult time since joining Bayern Munich last summer, for a fee of €45 million. The investment is yet to bear any fruits for the German Rekordmeister, with the winger struggling with consistency, form and confidence at Allianz Arena. He has not been helped by the fans either, with the player often being a target for supporters, partly due to his exorbitant wages.

The former Schalke youth prodigy was involved in 16 Bundesliga goals last season, but the majority of them came when Bayern Munich were already dominating the opposition. This season, there are calls for him being replaced by Jamal Musiala in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans and given the way the former Chelsea youth player is performing, that might soon be the case.

THT 2021/22 Summer Transfer Window Verdict: Chelsea

A move to Chelsea, in that regard, might not be a bad option for Sane in an attempt to revitalise his career. He is rated highly by Tuchel, who has already done well to rejuvenate multiple players in this squad including Antonio Rudiger.

However, the German international would face a lot of competition from the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was linked with a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer. In that respect, Sane might opt to join north London giants Arsenal or Tottenham instead.

Arsenal are desperate for attacking reinforcements, as the likes of Nicolas Pepe has not performed up to expectations. Tottenham, too, could be gunning for further reinforcements in the wide attacking department, even though the they did bring in Bryan Gil in the summer transfer window.

However, it is fair to point out that Sane is performing well lately, notably starring in Germany’s win over Liechtenstein while also assisting the Thomas Muller goal in the last league game for Bayern. It appears Nagelsmann’s decision to slot him into the left-wing role is paying dividends, so it remains unlikely that the Bavarians would want to offload him anytime soon.
