Barcelona have reportedly agreed personal terms with 23-year-old former La Masia ace Dani Olmo over a five-year contract.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Dani Olmo accepted Barcelona’s contract proposal without any second thoughts when they made their move for him in the summer transfer window. In addition, the 23-year-old former La Masia ace will once again accept any offer if Barcelona are still interested in him.

Dani Olmo spent most of his formative years with Barcelona before choosing to call it quits at their famed La Masia academy to join Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. Having joined the Croatian club at the nascent age of 16, the decision paid off handsomely, with the young midfielder going from strength to strength at Stadion Maksimir.

In January 2020, he made the move to RB Leipzig, where has continued his fine progress, making 61 appearances to date for Die Roten Bullen while chipping in with 12 goals and 13 assists in the process. His fine development has piqued the interest of former club Barcelona, who are now intent on signing Olmo.

The interest from Barcelona makes sense, considering Ousmane Dembele’s injury woes have shown no signs of going away while Ansu Fati is only just making his way back from a long-term knee injury. As a result, Olmo could possibly be a solution out wide for Ronald Koeman, although he might be an option in midfield, if required as well.

Indeed, the bulk of the workload in midfield is currently shouldered by Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, which is hardly an ideal situation. So, the 23-year-old could be a twin-pronged solution for Barcelona, who attempted to sign him in the final hours of the summer transfer window only for the move to fail to materialise.

It is at that time that Olmo agreed personal terms with Barcelona over a five-year deal, accepting the proposal from his former club without giving it a second thought, even though the wages on offer were not too attractive. Now, though, with the move not seeing the light of the day, Olmo might have his options open, although he will say yes to Barcelona if they reignited their interest.

As per recent reports, Barcelona are indeed looking to land him in the January transfer window now, meaning they could be in good stead if they looked to agree personal terms with the 23-year-old once again. Having said that, it remains to be seen if the Catalan giants make any significant progress in his pursuit in the coming months.
