Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement to sign 17-year-old Turkish prodigy Emre Demir from Kayserispor.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to secure the services of another Demir imminently. The Catalan giants are closing in on an agreement with Kayserispor in a deal that will see them land the 17-year-old Turkish prodigy next summer.

Emre Demir is a player who has generated a lot of hype and excitement around him ever since he broke into the first-team setup at Kayserispor in 2019, aged just 15. Since then, his role has steadily grown in the Turkish club, with the teenage prodigy already amassing 31 appearances for the Anatolian Star, chipping in with three goals and an assist in the process.

An attacking midfielder by trade, the 17-year-old also has the ability of playing on the wings, meaning he could possibly be moulded as per the requirements of the team he represents. And the Turkish whizkid has no shortage of interest in him either, with Barcelona hot on his trails.

In fact, the Blaugrana had been keen on signing Demir in the summer transfer window, or reach an agreement for him at the very least, before a move failed to materialise. Now, Barcelona are looking to bring him to Camp Nou after he turns 19, with the player possibly arriving next summer.

As per the report, though, Barcelona are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Kayserispor, and are hoping to make an announcement to that end in the coming weeks. A move for Demir also makes sense as far as the long-term future of the Catalan club is concerned.

While he is an attacking midfielder, Demir could possibly be moulded into a winger if a 4-3-3 system is persisted with in the long run. And with that in mind, he could, along with Ansu Fati, be the long-term solution out wide for Barcelona, if his upward trajectory continues at Camp Nou.

For now, Demir continues to make a name for himself in his homeland, with a move to Barcelona on the horizon. The 2021/22 season, though, will offer the 17-year-old Turkish prodigy a chance to continue his progress at Kayserispor before he arrives at Camp Nou next summer.
