Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks to sell their UEFA Champions League hero from 2019 to Fenerbahce.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Fotospor, Liverpool are eager to offload Divock Origi before the summer transfer window slams shut in Turkey and Russia. To that end, the Reds are in talks with Fenerbahce over a deal for their UEFA Champions League hero in 2019, with the discussions progressing well.
Divock Origi joined Liverpool from Lille in the summer of 2014, with the Belgian forward arriving at Anfield amid a lot of hype surrounding him. However, it was not until the 2018/19 season that he finally managed to establish himself as a key figure for the Merseyside club, as he played a critical role in their UEFA Champions League triumph back in 2019.
That was quickly followed by a renewal for the player, who was rewarded for his performances with a brand new contract. However, since the high of the Champions League triumph, the 26-year-old has suffered a dip in fortunes, and he has become a peripheral figure in the last couple of seasons.
To date, Origi has turned out 157 times for Liverpool while managing a tally of 35 goals and 14 assists in the process. The fall in stature, though, has given way to rumours that he could be on his way out of Anfield in the summer transfer window.
However, with the transfer window now shut in most countries across Europe, Origi and Liverpool have been left in an odd situation, wherein the only solution is a move to either Turkey or Russia, which is exactly what appears to be materialising now.
As per Fotospor, Liverpool are currently in talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce over a move for the 26-year-old. In fact, it has even been claimed that these negotiations are “progressing very quickly and positively.”
What now remains to be seen is if Origi’s time at Liverpool finally comes to an end with a switch to Turkey in the form of joining Fenerbahce. However, with the Reds having no option to sign a replacement, it will be intriguing as to how they will cope without much in terms of backup options in the attacking department.
