Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Alexander Isak as a long-term replacement for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a potential move in the future. The Premier League heavyweights are viewing the 21-year-old as a long-term successor for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Real Sociedad demanding €60 million for him.
Alexander Isak has come a long way since struggling to make an impact at Borussia Dortmund. Now at Real Sociedad, the Swedish international is becoming a increasingly key player for club and country, the youngster was most recently on show as Sweden handed Spain a humbling 2-1 defeat on Thursday.
As for his stint at Real Sociedad, Isak has, to date, managed a return of 33 goals and five assists in 91 appearances. While he might not have been too prolific, it is important to remember that Isak is still in the nascent stages of his career and is, hence, quite raw. However, he seems to have made enough of an impression to capture the attention of Arsenal.
The interest from Arsenal makes a lot of sense considering Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are both facing uncertain futures at the Emirates. In fact, Lacazette has entered the final year of his contract with the Gunners while Aubameyang has been tailed by several top clubs in Europe.
In fact, there were murmurings that Barcelona wanted to sign the Arsenal captain, who was also briefly linked with Juventus as a long-term successor for Cristiano Ronaldo. There have been suggestions that Arsenal were open to cashing in on both the veteran forwards, only for neither to leave.
However, with Lacazette highly likely to run his contract down if he is not offloaded in Janaury, it is a prudent move to sign a replacement, making Isak a viable target. However, the Swede will cost around €60 million, and it is unclear whether Arsenal would be open to shelling out such a sum on him.
Having said that, the Gunners were the heaviest spenders in the Premier League in the summer transfer window, shelling out close to €60 million to sign Ben White. What now remains to be seen is if they make any progress in pursuit of Isak or if they choose to sign someone else instead.
