Real Madrid are reportedly on the cusp of securing the services of Eduardo Camavinga, also a target for Manchester United, on a €31 million deal.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Eduardo Camavinga on Deadline Day of the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants will pay a sum of €31 million for the French midfielder, who was also a target for Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Eduardo Camavinga has been a hot property in the transfer market ever since he first broke into the Stade Rennais first-team setup towards the end of the 2018/19 season, aged just 16. Since then, the young midfielder has gone from strength to strength, even making his debut for the French national side last year.

To date, Camavinga has made 88 appearances for Rennes while chipping in with two goals and five assists along the way. His progress over the last couple of years have alerted a number of top clubs across Europe, with two of his most heavily linked suitors being Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Real Madrid have been hot on the trails of the 18-year-old ever since he first started becoming a household name across Europe. The eagerness to sign the Frenchman makes sense as well, seeing as Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career while Toni Kroos is approaching the final phase of his own career.

In addition, Casemiro will turn 30 in February, meaning he will soon be nearing a time when he will have to be rotated more. As a result, it has been imperative for Real Madrid to invest in a central midfielder, with Camavinga a viable target. Manchester United, on the other hand, have concentrated much of their efforts to sign the teenage prodigy in the ongoing transfer window.

Like Real Madrid, Manchester United have the need to bolster their midfield, with Camavinga’s ability to play as a holding midfielder making him an option worth considering, as Nemanja Matic reaches the end of the line at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils’ interest in the 18-year-old has been cooling in recent weeks, which is rather inexplicable.

Apart from Manchester United and Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest in Camavinga, although Los Blancos have now won the race to sign him. As per Fabrizio Romano, the French international is set to make his way to the Spanish capital in what will be a €31 million deal.

Rennes will also be eligible to receive additional bonus payments if certain conditions are met. Meanwhile, Camavinga has already completed his medical with Real Madrid, who are set to make the announcement of his signing official on Deadline Day.
