Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Real Betis on deadline day.

According to football.london journalist Chris Wheatley, Real Betis are closing in on the capture of Hector Bellerin. Their representatives have already met with the player’s agent and the move is likely to be sorted on deadline day.

Betis do have economic problems but are trying to find out ways to make the move possible as Bellerin is believed to be a boyhood fan of the Verdiblancos. Further details regarding the contract are set to be revealed only after the deal is done.

Arsenal are extremely keen on offloading their star player as Mikel Arteta eyes further defensive overhaul. The Spaniard has already sanctioned the termination of Willian’s contract recently, with the Brazilian returning to his homeland to play for Corinthians, taking a massive pay cut in the process.

Bellerin, too, may have to be content with a similar pay cut upon his arrival at Real Betis. The Spaniard is currently the highest-paid defender at Arsenal, with his current contract at Emirates expiring in 2023. The deal was signed back in 2016 when he was emerging as one of the most talented defensive talents in Europe.

Unfortunately, the right-back has endured a steady decline over the past few years, thus falling out of favour under current manager Arteta. He is yet to even appear in a single game for Arsenal this season, falling behind Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers in the pecking order. The further addition of Ben White has effectively ruled out any future for the Spaniard at the Emirates.

Bellerin’s departure, though, could theoretically be a devastating blow for Arsenal as his experience is still valued at the club while both Cedric and Chambers have produced disastrous performances recently. Hence, the north Londoners may have to enter the market for a replacement, with less than 24 hours remaining until the transfer window slams to a shut.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Emerson as a potential replacement for Bellerin. But the Brazilian is tipped to join arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur and it will be a real challenge for Arsenal to hijack the move, especially after a disastrous start to the campaign that sees them languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Arsenal’s right-back situation. With time running out, it won’t be surprising to see the North London giants blocking any move for Bellerin, knowing they simply cannot take any risks in such a long season.
