Crystal Palace could sign former Chelsea ace Jeremie Boga before the transfer deadline after initiating contact with Sassuolo for the attacker.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Crystal Palace could attempt to sign Jeremie Boga after contacting Sassuolo over the Ivorian’s transfer. The former Chelsea player was expected to move this summer, although Sassuolo have been stubborn over their stance.

Crystal Palace endured a tough summer of multiple departures and then a re-build, undertaken by new manager Patrick Vieira. At the same time, the club have moved away from their usual mould of signing more experienced players. Under the Frenchman’s guidance, the club have made some exciting signings during the summer.

Vieira is keen on recruiting at least two attackers before this window closes. A striker and a wide player are what the manager needs after watching his team struggled for the first three games of the Premier League season. Palace remain keen on Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah while simultaneously opening talks with Odsonne Edouard.

The Celtic striker has emerged as a potential target in the last few days, and a £15 million move could be on the cards before the deadline. The Eagles’ search for an attacking winger could lead them towards Sassuolo’s Jeremie Boga, a player Vieira has appreciated since his days as manager of Nice.

Once in the ranks at Chelsea, Boga has become a key member of this current Sassuolo side over the last three seasons. The 2019/20 season was his best in Serie A when he scored 11 goals and provided five assists. However, his form somewhat tailed off last season, although he is still considered an important part of the first team.

A move back to the Premier League could tempt the ex-Chelsea ace, even so late in the window. Sassuolo had reportedly rejected proposals for Boga in the region of €20 million earlier. So it remains to be seen how much they might demand from Palace if talks between the clubs advance.

Palace also have sights on Manchester United winger Daniel James, although the Welshman could cost even more than Boga.

The Ivorian could be a good addition to Vieira’s project at Palace, and at the right price, a transfer would materialise. The French manager has done a decent job and could have a good squad for the season if he manages to sign a striker and a wide man like Boga before the transfer deadline.
