Sean Dyche could be interested in signing Ross Barkley before the deadline today, as the Chelsea outcast finds himself in a difficult position.
According to the Express, Burnley could make a late move for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley. The transfer window closes today and the Clarets will have to act quickly to complete a potential deal, although finances could prove to be a stumbling block in signing the former Everton star.
Burnley have had a busy day in the transfer window and could get even more hectic as they pursue Barkley’s signature. Having already secured Swansea City’s full-back, Connor Roberts, on the day, Sean Dyche wants to bring the Chelsea outcast to the club.
The midfielder has been in the ranks at Chelsea for quite some time now. Having failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge, the former Everton star found himself in the unfamiliar territory of loan moves. Last season, Barkley had a decent spell at Aston Villa, although injuries hampered his progression.
Unable to make it into the current Chelsea set-up during pre-season, Barkley finds himself staring at another uncertain period in his career. There have been no realistic offers for the midfielder this summer, and with the deadline approaching, he might spend the whole season on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Additionally, stories are emerging of Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s imminent stay at Stamford Bridge this season, which further diminishes Barkley’s chances at the club. However, the midfielder would be open to a late switch and Burnley are reportedly interested.
Dyche wants to add a midfielder with creative capabilities before the deadline. Barkley certainly fits the mould, but finances could derail a potential move. The player himself could be resigned to join Burnley, as there are no other choices in front of him, but his salary could become a problem as well.
Chelsea would ideally want Burnley to cover his entire wages for the season, although they would prefer to sell him permanently. Burnley may not be in a position to purchase him outright at this moment and would prefer to sign him on loan instead.
Barkley earns a reported £100,000-per-week at Stamford Bridge. Furthermore, the Blues would also seek a loan fee from Burnley for the midfielder. These could prove a problem for the Clarets in their attempts to sign the Englishman, although a late drama could be on the cards before tonight’s deadline.
