Real Madrid have completed the signing of Eduardo Camavinga for a reported fee of €40 million including add-ons.

In an official statement, Real Madrid have announced the signing of Eduardo Camavinga. The young midfielder has penned a six-year contract at the club with his deal running until 2027. Los Blancos are set to pay €31 million upfront with an additional €9 million to be paid in performance-related bonuses.

Camavinga’s contract at Stade Rennais was set to expire at the end of the season when clubs would have been able to sign him for free. But it appears the player was keen on joining Real Madrid this summer in order to fight for his place in the first team and establish himself as a key player under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Frenchman is expected to be the last piece of business from Real Madrid’s end, as the deal to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG collapsed after the two clubs failed to come to an agreement. It seems Paris Saint-Germain are more than willing to keep hold of their prized asset for another year despite his current contract expiring in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 giants have also emerged as the favourites to sign Nuno Mendes, a Manchester City target, and the move could soon be officiated.

From a sporting perspective, Camavinga could be a massive coup for a Real Madrid team that has been struggling a with lack of depth in the midfield department. The Whites have had a difficult time especially in the first few weeks of the new season, with both their star players in Toni Kroos and Luka Modric sidelined with knocks.

The addition of the youngster could go a long way in fixing up those gaps in midfield. His all-round game, which is quite similar to Modric, makes him an ideal partner for a strong and physical defensive midfielder like Casemiro. And at the age of just 18, the Frenchman has quite a future ahead of him.

However, very few players have been able to make a name for themselves at Real Madrid at such a young age. Los Blancos, on that note, need to be careful of how they choose to nurture Camavinga, although the youngster is more than ready to step up and become a key asset for the club in the near future.
