Tottenham have reportedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of speedster Adama Traore with Wolves having rejected a loan offer for the 25-year-old winger.

According to the report in Telegraph, Tottenham are said to have been handed a setback in their chase of Adama Traore, with Wolves desperate to keep hold of their pacy winger beyond the transfer window. They have resumed talks with the player’s’ camp to reward the Spaniard with a new enhanced contract to ward off the outside interest.

The Spanish international had been linked with a move away from the West Midlands clubs over the past couple of weeks with Spurs credited with a solid interest to bring the winger to North London and have held talks over recent days, with Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo keen to be reunited with his former player.

The two Premier League clubs have held negotiations about a potential transfer for the winger, with the West Midlands club already rejecting a loan offer that included a £5 million loan fee and a buy-out option that can be exercised at the start of next season.

Nuno is said to be interested in bringing Traore to the club in order to provide more pace, dynamism, versatility and directness to his attack, with the former La Masia product capable of operating in multiple positions, be it as a support striker, winger or even wing-back if asked.

Traore’s current deal at Molineux has two years left to run, and the player has refused to renew the deal, but that hasn’t affected Wolves’ stance that he isn’t up for sale and they will not entertain any bids their star man. He is apparently seen as more of a crucial player by the Wolves manager Bruno Lage, pushing the club to sign him to a new, improved deal very soon.

It’s understandable why Spurs are in the market for a winger. Their current wide options are rather limited, with Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Heung Min-Son, and inexperienced Bryan Gil expected to be Nuno Espirito Santo’s choices for the upcoming season. Lucas Moura is highly inconsistent, and his form blows hot and cold throughout the season. Traore would certainly be an exciting signing.

However, similar to the Harry Kane saga, if Wolves are adamant, there’s not much the interested club can do unless they are ready to break the bank. It’s understood that Tottenham will come up with another proposal late in the window to test Wolves, and in case they fail again, Paratici has other options lined up too.
