Liverpool have contacted Paris Saint-Germain over Kylian Mbappe, who is being tipped to join Real Madrid this summer.

As we head towards the final few days of the summer transfer window, there could be further drama in store with reports from Mundo Deportivo, as translated by Anfield Watch, claiming that Liverpool have joined the race to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe.

It appears the Premier League giants have already made contact with Paris Saint-Germain, seeking the possibility of a late swoop. Mbappe is believed to be a huge admirer of Liverpool, whose lack of activity in the market this summer puts them in a better position to sign the Frenchman than any other English club at the moment.

Indeed, Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United have recently completed the sensational capture of Cristiano Ronaldo while Manchester City, it seems, are holding out for next summer when they will surely target Erling Haaland. They had also broken the Premier League transfer record by bringing in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Chelsea, too, have brought in Romelu Lukaku, leaving Liverpool as the only club yet to make an eye-catching transfer this summer. It has caused quite an uproar from a section of fans, who believe that the Reds do not have enough quality to compete with any of those three teams for the Premier League title next season.

The addition of Kylian Mbappe, in that regard, could go a long way in silencing those critics. The Frenchman would be an immediate upgrade over Roberto Firmino in attack, potential forming a deadly offensive combination alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane next season.

However, the Reds are racing against time, as Real Madrid edge closer towards the capture of the generational talent. A recent report from ESPN even suggests that Los Blancos are just one step away from signing Mbappe, having made an astounding €180 million offer for the PSG forward.

The Ligue 1 giants are likely to accept the deal as they are keen to avoid losing their prized asset for free next summer when his contract in Paris comes to an end.

Despite being put under massive debt, it appears Real Madrid are willing to take yet another gamble, believing that the arrival of Mbappe could put an end to their sporting hardships over the past year or so.

But as we have learned from Ronaldo’s transfer saga, a deal is not done until it is done, so it will be interesting to see if Liverpool or any other club can make a late swoop for the 22-year-old Frenchman this summer, as he nears an exit from France.
