Everton have reportedly sounded out Scottish giants Celtic over a potential late swoop for French centre-forward Odsonne Edouard.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Everton have made contact with Scottish outfit Celtic as they look to make a move for Odsonne Edouard late in the summer transfer window.

Dubbed as the ‘Rocket’ in his youth days at Paris Saint-Germain owing to his goalscoring prowess, Edouard made the switch to Celtic in the summer of 2017, initially on loan, before making the transfer permanent a year later for a club-record deal. Throughout his time in Scotland, the 23-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer.

Indeed, Edouard, to date, has bagged 86 goals and 39 assists in 178 appearances for the Hoops, with three of those goals coming in the ongoing campaign. However, having entered the final year of his contract with the Scottish club, the French ace is widely expected to depart before the transfer window closes.

There has been plenty of interest from the Premier League, with the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham United looking at Edouard to bolster their attack. Now, late in the transfer window, Everton too have thrown their hat in the ring to secure the signing of the Celtic striker.

Everton find themselves in a bit of a precarious position as Moise Kean is being linked with a return to Juventus following Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock switch to Manchester United. Furthermore, Richarlison, who had been touted as a transfer target for Real Madrid all summer, has emerged on the radars of Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to replace the Spain-bound Kylian Mbappe.

With Cenk Tosun not in the plans of manager Rafael Benitez, they will run the risk of being thinly stretched in the attacking department should either Kean or Richarlison end up leaving before the transfer window slams shut. So, securing another striker, who can support and cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin becomes a priority for Everton.

To that end, a move for FC Porto’s versatile Colombian forward, Luis Diaz, is believed to be in the works. However, the Merseysiders seem to be keeping their options open, with Edouard also now emerging as a transfer target. In fact, as per Solhekol, they have already initiated contact and sounded out Celtic over the possibility of a move.

With only a few days left for the transfer window to close, Everton will have to act swiftly to add to their attacking unit or risk being left behind in the race for a top-six finish.
