Aston Villa are reportedly eager to sign a midfielder this summer, with 23-year-old Dutch midfielder Abdou Harroui a key target.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Aston Villa are interested in signing Abdou Harroui before the summer transfer window slams shut. The 23-year-old Dutch midfielder could leave Sparta Rotterdam this month, with the Villans attempting to secure his services.
Abdou Harroui has been with Sparta Rotterdam for seven years now, having joined their youth setup back in 2014. After four years in the academy, the player progressed to the first-team squad in 2018, making his Eredivisie debut in February 2018.
Since then, the 23-year-old has grown in stature considerably at Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel, having amassed 103 appearances while chipping in with 18 goals and 13 assists in the process. His progress with the Dutch club seems to have alerted several clubs outside Netherlands, with Aston Villa, in particular, keen on signing him.
Aston Villa have been reported to be in the market for a midfielder this summer, having chosen not to sign anyone since the end of Ross Barkley’s loan spell from Chelsea. In addition, Marvelous Nakamba has been linked with a potential summer departure, with Everton being linked with him.
As a result, Aston Villa have been eager to sign a midfielder this summer. In fact, James Ward-Prowse had been a key target for the Midlands club earlier in the summer, before he chose to stay put at Southampton, with whom he has also signed a new long-term deal.
In recent times, Weston McKennie has emerged as a potential target for Aston Villa, although they are facing stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in his pursuit. As a result, it is prudent that Villa have been identifying alternatives, with Harroui emerging as a target.
However, the 23-year-old is also being courted by Nottingham Forest, and it remains to be seen if Aston Villa can beat the Championship outfit to his signature. For now, Harroui is a key target for the Villans and it will be interesting to see if they can get a deal for the Dutch midfielder over the line.
