Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game of football. His rivalry with Lionel Messi is a stuff of legends, with the duo establishing their place in footballing folklore. Ronaldo, in particular, is someone who can be classified as an all-time great for two clubs, having first enjoyed oodles of success with Manchester United before departing Old Trafford in 2009.

However, it is at Real Madrid where Ronaldo truly exploded, playing a pivotal role as Los Blancos enjoyed unprecedented success, including an remarkable three-peat of the UEFA Champions League. Ronaldo’s time at Real Madrid came to an end in 2018, when he joined Juventus, with whom he has amassed a fabulous tally of 101 goals and 22 assists in 134 appearances.

However, after three years in Turin, Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave Juventus this summer, with Manchester City initially emerging as a potential destination. In fact, the Citizens were even set to make an offer for Ronaldo before pulling the plug on a deal. And now, Ronaldo is set to seal a dramatic return to Manchester United.

Ever since he first left Manchester United in 2009, a possible return had become a running gag, and a pipe dream for several of the Red Devils’ fanbase. However, it never really came to fruition up until now, with Manchester United being offered the chance to re-sign Ronaldo this week.

The move is now set to be formally completed, with Manchester United reaching an agreement to re-sign Ronaldo. The transfer is subject to completion after personal terms are agreed followed by which there will be visa procedures to take care of. So, Ronaldo will not be available to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend, with his second coming beginning post the international break.

Amid all this, it will be interesting to see how Ronaldo fits in at Manchester United. While he will be an upgrade on most Manchester United attackers, it is important to remember that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has plenty of talented forwards at his disposal, meaning he now has a formidable attacking force to choose from.

As for the transfer fee, Manchester United, as per The Guardian, are paying Juventus €20 million in base fee, with an additional €3 million being bonus payments. Ronaldo will sign a two-year deal with Manchester United, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in his second stint at Old Trafford.
