Manchester City are prepared to make the first move in pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Citizens weighing up a two-year deal for the Juventus ace.
Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has recently offered an update on Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation at Juventus. His super-agent Jorge Mendes has recently arrived in Turin in order to further concentrate on his client’s future, with the player evidently keen on moving elsewhere.
Mendes is yet to offer Juventus any proposal from other clubs, but it is believed that Manchester City are weighing up a fresh bid for the Portuguese sensation – a two-year contract with a salary of €15 million per season. As for the transfer fee, Gabriel Jesus is likely to be used as a makeweight, although Pep Guardiola is yet to approve the move.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Ronaldo views Manchester City as an ideal destination. The club matches his footballing ambition, even though his former association with Manchester United could substantially raise the animosity between the two sets of supporters.
Nevertheless, the Real Madrid icon remains a legitimate target for Manchester City, especially after the recent announcement by Harry Kane. The Tottenham forward was the club’s top target this summer, but he has pledged to remain in north London for at least another season.
It has served as a massive blow for the Citizens, who are still without a reliable goalscorer. The summer arrival of Jack Grealish has certainly added some quality in the creative department, but the absence of Sergio Aguero leaves Manchester City without a proper number nine.
Gabriel Jesus is always an option, but the Brazilian is not favoured by either Guardiola or the fans. As such, Manchester City could be tempted to make the move to sign Ronaldo, whose pedigree at the highest level of football remains unmatched.
A potential move to the Etihad should also see him make an infamous return to the Premier League. The Portuguese international had earlier made a total of 196 appearances in the English top-flight during his six-year spell at Old Trafford, winning the league thrice.
Ronaldo’s addition could certainly boost Manchester City’s chances of holding on to their Premier League for the next couple of years. It will be exciting to see him play under the leadership of Pep Guardiola as well, though PSG are another option for the attacker, especially if Real Madrid succeed with their bumper offer for Kylian Mbappe.
