Houssem Aouar’s transfer stories refuse to go away with the midfielder reportedly being offered to Arsenal and Tottenham before deadline day.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham and Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Houssem Aouar in the final days of the transfer window. The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the entire summer, and he might be one player to keep an eye on before deadline day.

Houssem Aouar was understood to be willing to leave Lyon for the whole summer, yet the club did not receive any significant offers for the midfielder. The French club, mired with financial difficulties are keen to cash in on the 23-year-old and are making a final attempt to resolve his future.

Lyon have reportedly offered Aouar to Tottenham and Arsenal in a bid to sell him. While there has been significant interest from both north London sides, doubts linegr if a move may materialise. Additionally, the French side have slashed his asking price significantly from last summer, with Aouar now available for £20-25 million.

Arsenal held significant interest last summer and saw a bid worth a reported £40 million rejected by Lyon. The Gunners turned their attention towards signing Thomas Partey back then, and while they have been looking at a midfield option in this window, Aouar’s name has come up again.

The Gunners might still look to sign him or someone else before the window closes, although their priority would be a right-back. However, if they cannot shift their current full-backs out of the club, they might consider Aouar as a fallback option. He would likely give them a different dimension from midfield, despite having Partey, Granit Xhaka and new arrival Albert Sambi Lokonga as options there.

As for Tottenham, they may hold interest but not a strong one. As Fabrizio Romano confirmed, Spurs do not consider Aouar as a priority at the moment. There’s a possibility that if one of Tanguy Ndombele or Moussa Sissoko leaves the club, Spurs might turn towards Aouar to fill the void.

However, chances still look slim from Tottenham’s perspective, although Arsenal might still be a remote possibility for the midfielder, despite their recent signing of Martin Odegaard.

As things stand, we will have to wait out a few more days to find the outcome of Aouar’s future. Whether he signs for Arsenal, Tottenham or someone else altogether remains to be seen. More strikingly, his situation is a baffling one when last summer, a host of clubs queued up to him, and this time there’s seemingly nobody.

It is so frustrating how Levy and Paratici take so long to pull the trigger on a deal, we need Auoar, Traore and a centre back. That would massively improve our squad and ability to counter attack. With the right centre back too would sure up our defence. Let’s get these deals done and move on our dead wood.
