Manchester United are reportedly still keen on signing French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, but a move to Old Trafford is deemed as unlikely.

According to ESPN, Manchester United remain interested in signing 18-year-old talented midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and are monitoring his contract situation at Stade Rennais. But, considering the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, it is understood that any further acquisitions would require United to get several players off the books and generate additional funds before making a move for the French international.

Camavinga has refused to sign an extension on his current contract at Roazhon Park, which has only one year left on it. This has alerted top clubs all across Europe on the proposition to sign the generational talent on a bargain fee. The Ligue 1 outfit are open to cash in on their prized asset as they want to avoid losing him on a Bosman transfer next year.

Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett is pushing for a move in the Premier League, but the player is keener on remaining in France with PSG or a potential move to Spain. This has certainly put Paris Saint-Germain in a pole position to get the deal over the line for the teenager. However, despite interest from numerous teams, none has come up with a formal bid, and his future remains uncertain for the time being.

Camavinga is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the world right now, and his style of play is considered to be similar to Paul Pogba. After breaking onto the scene at the age of just 16, he has since developed into a dynamic, progressive midfielder and has been integral to Stade Rennais success in Ligue 1over the last couple of years. He has already made 82 appearances for Les Rennais.

Camavinga’s rapid development has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. He already has three caps for the French national team and has also scored once, becoming the second-youngest player to do so. Landing the 18-year-old would represent an end to a fantastic summer window for the Red Devils. He has the potential to become a world-class midfielder and may play a key role at Old Trafford.

Nemanja Matic is well into his thirties, while Fred and Scott McTominay are useful but hardly provides anything going forward. Donny van de Beek is not favoured by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Pogba continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford. That is why United can do with one of the hottest and prodigious prospects in Camavinga.

Originally, the Red Devils want Camavinga to be the replacement to star midfielder Pogba, who was touted to join PSG. But with Lionel Messi’s arrival in Paris, that speculation is firmly put to bed. What remains to be seen is whether United will step up with a formal offer or remain contented with their current roster.
