Chelsea are reportedly ready to shell out €40 million to secure the services of the 21-year-old French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea are stepping up their efforts to sign Aurelien Tchouameni before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Premier League giants are willing to meet the 21-year-old French midfielder’s €40 million valuation, with Juventus also hot on his trails.

Aurelien Tchouameni is widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe, having gone from strength to strength since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. Over the last 18 months or so, the youngster has become one of the key players for the principality club.

To date, the 21-year-old has made 51 appearances for Monaco, chipping in with four goals and as many assists along the way. His progress since joining the Ligue 1 giants has attracted some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Chelsea, in particular, being hot on the trails of the French midfielder.

Chelsea’s priority to bolster their midfield unit is Declan Rice. However, with West Ham United playing hardball over negotiations involving the English international, the Blues have been forced to consider alternatives, with Tchouameni being one of the options that have been discussed by the club.

The interest in the Frenchman makes a lot of sense as well, despite the presence of the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the Chelsea first-team setup. That is because beyond the trio there is not a lot in way of quality, especially with Billy Gilmour out on loan at Norwich City.

The likes of Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tiemouye Bakayoko are all indeed not a part of Tuchel’s plans, and are likely to be sent out on loan by the Blues. So, pursuing someone like Tchouameni makes sense, with Chelsea ready to meet his €40 million valuation.

Apart from Chelsea, Juventus are also interested in the 21-year-old, although the Bianconeri are unlikely to make their move for him. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea indeed table a €40 million bid for the French midfielder and if they are able to land him with such an offer.
