Everton are eyeing a swoop for Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson, having made a £5 million offer for the youngster.

According to Mirror, Everton are on the hunt for a new right-back this summer. One of their potential options is Nathan Patterson of Rangers, with the Merseyside giants having already submitted a £5 million offer for the youngster.

The 19-year-old is facing an uncertain future at the club, who are unsure whether they should keep hold of the player. It has given an ideal cue for Everton to step in and prise him away from Ibrox.

A native of Glasgow, Patterson has been a part of the Rangers setup since 2009, having joined at the age of just 8. He has rapidly moved his way up the youth ranks, before eventually gaining promotion to the senior side last summer.

Although the youngster wasn’t a prominent figure in the Rangers side that won the Scottish Premiership last season, he did become a viable alternative for club captain James Tavernier. He is also destined to enjoy a more prominent role in the new season, having already started in the League Cup recently.

However, it appears Everton are ready to prise away from Rangers as new manager Rafa Benitez seeks to add more depth in the right-back department. The Toffees have had difficulties over the fitness of ageing Seamus Coleman while Jonjoe Kenny is not exactly rated at the club despite spending the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Celtic.

In Patterson, Benitez could find himself a hungry right-back, who is ready to make his presence felt at the highest level of football. Everton have had a lot of success with their young players lately, so the 19-year-old could be a fair bet, especially for a fee of just £5 million.

Patterson is not the only player targeted by the Toffees tho. Earlier this week, they were linked with a shock swoop for Juventus ace Weston McKennie, who is facing an uncertain future in Turin after the summer arrival of Italy’s Euro 2020 star Manuel Locatelli.

It remains to be seen whether Everton can strike a deal for either of these players, though the Patterson move seems likely as Rangers have no reason to decline the £5 million offer if they already have an established option at right-back in Tavernier.

Scotland have had no shortage of full-back talents in recent years and Nathan Patterson could certainly become the next big star, regardless of his future destination in these remaining of the transfer window.
