Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has requested another defensive signing to strengthen his squad, wants Domingos Duarte as his preferred option.

According to Fichajes, Nuno Espirito Santo wants his club to sign Domingos Duarte before the transfer window shuts. The Portuguese manager feels Spurs need more reinforcements in defence after feeling short at the back despite the arrival of Cristian Romero in the close season.

Tottenham began their Premier League campaign on a high note after beating last season’s champions Manchester City. A solitary strike from Heung-min Son was enough to seal all three points, but Nuno feels the side needs another prominent defender to go through the rigours of the season.

In recent seasons, Spurs have started well only to tail away when it matters during the season. A similar run of form saw them leading the Premier League table last season only to finish in 7th place. A major part of the downfall has been a stuttering defence, although the club are active in the market to seek solutions.

Spurs have already signed Cristian Romero from Atalanta and are trailing more targets. However, Nuno has reportedly addressed chairman Daniel Levy after the loss to Pacos de Ferreira and requested the club sign another centre-back. The Portuguese manager wants Domingos Duarte from Granada to solve the issue.

Tottenham are also reportedly eyeing a move for Kurt Zouma from Chelsea, although West Ham is also in the Frenchman’s race. While the Blues are demanding £25 million, Spurs might turn away towards cheaper alternatives

Duarte is certainly one of them, with his contract at Granada set to expire in 2023. The centre-back has become an important player for the Spanish side, although they could cash in if a generous offer comes around. The Tottenham manager feels Duarte could be the player to help form a solid partnership at the back, alongside Romero.

As the market gets closer to its deadline, more names could emerge, and the 26-year-old Duarte is just one of them. Another factor is the less time available to replace departing stars; a problem selling clubs face each season. However, Granada will be hoping to resolve the defender’s future quickly to sort themselves out.

Please do me a favour, what happened to us signing quality this window? from Kounde and Milenkovic to this guy, what a waste of money, you might as well keep Sanchez and guarantee winning nothing. Levy and Lewis OUT !!!
