Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks with Metz over Pape Sarr, with the north London giants tabling a €15 million initial offer.

According to football journalist Pedro Almeida, Tottenham Hotspur have approached Metz over the possibility of signing Pape Sarr. The north London giants are pushing for a new midfielder in these final stages of the transfer window and have already tabled a bid of around €10 million, with an additional €5 million to be paid in bonuses.

Sarr is no stranger to interest from England, having become a hot prospect in the market after a breakthrough campaign last term. Aside from Spurs, Manchester City have been linked with a move for the youngster, with cross-town rivals Manchester United breathing down their neck.

The Metz youngster is an interesting option for Tottenham, who are in the market for a new midfielder. With Tanguy Ndombele likely not favoured by new coach Nuno Espirito Santo, the Lilywhites evidently lack viable options in central midfield, especially with Harry Winks being linked with several English clubs including Everton.

Sarr should serve as direct competition for Oliver Skipp, who himself has enjoyed a first-team breakthrough under Nuno. The young Senegalese international could be an excellent long-term investment due to his age and the quality he brings to the table, including his technical brilliance and defensive work rate.

Sarr’s potential arrival in north London could serve as a major blow for Manchester City, though. The English champions were hoping to snap him up as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho. But it appears they are not the only club interested in his services.

The Citizens have been quite busy in the market lately. After securing Jack Grealish for a record deal, they are now being linked with a sensational €80 million swoop for Dusan Vlahovic.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez as well as Lyon’s Houssem Aouar of late. But in Pape Sarr, they could find themselves a versatile midfielder, who is more than capable of making an impact at the highest level of football and, given his age, should only get better with experience.

However, it might be a challenging task for Spurs to meet Metz’s price tag and a total bid of €15 million, including bonuses, might not be enough to convince the Ligue 1 outfit. Earlier reports have suggested a fee of over €30 million so it will be interesting to see how things transpire in this transfer saga.
