Premier League trio Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United were offered the chance to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer.

As revealed in the latest episode of the Transfer Window Podcast, cited by SI, Robert Lewandowski was offered to three Premier League clubs this summer in Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. The claim comes just a few days after Sky Sports’ report suggesting that the Bayern Munich striker is looking for a new challenge.

However, neither of the three English clubs were willing to spend the €110 million price tag cited in the German media. Lewandowski himself preferred to stay in Munich, as he looks to help the club secure their tenth successive Bundesliga titles.

The Polish international had recently starred in the 3-1 win over his former club Borussia Dortmund, in the DFL Supercup. But there have been doubts over his prospects under new coach Julian Nagelsmann, who likes to work around younger players.

Lewandowski’s current contract at Allianz Arena expires in 2023, with the forward most likely to leave the club next summer. Premier League naturally remains the likeliest destination, with the majority of the English clubs on the hunt for a quality centre-forward.

The Citizens, in particular, have been linked with a swoop for Harry Kane, but are finding it increasingly difficult to negotiate a deal. Lewandowski, in that regard, could have been an excellent alternative, as the Pole had previously worked under Pep Guardiola.

The same can be said for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp being Lewandowski’s favourite coach in his career. He could, therefore, certainly envisage a reunion at Anfield, with the Reds themselves keen on signing a centre-forward who can prove to be an upgrade over Roberto Firmino.

However, Manchester United appear to be the most logical destination. Unlike Liverpool and Man City, the Red Devils are not in immediate need of reinforcements in the goalscoring department, having extended the contract of Edinson Cavani.

As such, the club is patiently weighing up its targets next season. Lautaro Martinez, for one, is emerging as one of the top candidates, but in Lewandowski, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could find himself an experienced forward, who has the pedigree of being one of the best in the world.

It would be unfair to rule out a prolonged stay at Allianz Arena, though, as Lewandowski has only grown better with time. So it won’t be surprising to see the Bavarians trying to keep hold of his services by offering him a new deal during the course of the campaign.
