Real Madrid are interested in signing Anthony Martial from Manchester United, with a loan deal possible for the French forward.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Real Madrid are interested in signing Anthony Martial before the summer transfer window slams shut. The French forward is being viewed as a potential alternative to Kylian Mbappe, with a loan from Manchester United being sought.

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015 and has since endured a roller-coaster of a ride at Old Trafford. While he has finished as the club’s top scorer in two of the seasons since arriving at the club, he has also had the tendency to go missing for long periods, which was prevalent last season.

Indeed, Martial only managed a return of seven goals and nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. However, there is renewed optimism surrounding the French forward at the onset of the new season, with recent reports even suggesting that Manchester United are now considering a summer sale. However, that has not deterred Real Madrid, who are showing an interest in him.

Real Madrid’s priority in attack has always been to sign either or both of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. However, neither player is going to arrive in the Spanish capital this summer, forcing the Merengues to put off their pursuit for another year, which is therefore, forcing them to consider alternatives.

To that end, the Spanish giants have identified three candidates who could come in a solution this summer, taking some of the goalscoring burden off of Karim Benzema. To that end, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is viewed as a short-term solution whereas Anthony Martial is on Real Madrid’s radar as well.

However, unlike Aubameyang, Martial is only an option to join the club on loan, which ought to work out well for Real Madrid if the transfer goes through, seeing as the Manchester United forward can clear out the space next summer for Mbappe, who will likely arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer.

Martial has himself insisted that he is raring to go this season and a motivated Martial could work wonders for Real Madrid. However, it is unclear whether Manchester United are open to parting ways with the 25-year-old this summer, and that stance will go a long way in determining whether Real Madrid can land him on loan or not.

  1. Manchester United should retain Anthony Martial and not strengthen Real Madrid with a loan move. He can surely help in United’s quest for glory this season and prove his worth as he was injured for the best part of last season. If given an opportunity, we can be assured of his quality and pedigree. Just look at Jesse Lingard’s performance while on loan at West Ham United last season. This just reflect’s on OGS capability or lack of it. Now with West Ham willing to sign him permanently, Solskjaer could not make up his mind, but he wants to retain Phil Jones who was a disaster for the last one-and-a-half season. Please make up your mind, Solskjaer, for Heaven’s sake and clear all deadwood and let Lingard go for the benefit of United and also Lingard’s future.

  2. Excellent Larry A says:

No no no, Martial shouldn’t go any where. He is still vital to our team, he is an utility player he can operate from the wings, as well as forward. No point selling players of that quality.
Sancho hasn’t played for us yet, no one knows how he will fair, so we shouldn’t rush to sell any player including Jesse Lingard.
