Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, with talks already open between the player and the club.

According to Rai Sport journalist Sara Meini on Twitter, Manchester City have registered an interest in raiding Serie A club Fiorentina for the signing of Dusan Vlahovic in the ongoing transfer window.

Vlahovic has completed three seasons in Florence, having first arrived as a teenager from Serbian outfit Partizan Belgrade. After having been eased into the role of a first-team starter, the 21-year-old enjoyed a prolific 2020/21 campaign during which he plundered 21 goals in 37 Serie A matches for the Italian outfit.

Vlahovic has started the new season on a similar note as well, already finding the back of the net twice in Fiorentina’s only game of the campaign so far, which came in Coppa Italia. A full international with Serbia, the towering striker has garnered a lot of interest from clubs in England, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham heavily linked of late.

However, the north London duo could be blown out of the water by Manchester City, who have now made their presence felt in the race to sign Vlahovic. It is no secret that the Premier League champions are in the market for a new striker this summer, having lost the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, Sergio Aguero, to Barcelona on a free transfer.

Manchester City’s main transfer target has been Tottenham and England superstar Harry Kane. The Cityzens have made multiple offers for the 28-year-old marksman, but Spurs have stood firm on their stance that their talisman is not for sale. This is despite Kane himself wanting to make the switch in order to compete for trophies.

With things not progressing as planned on the Harry Kane front, it seems like Pep Guardiola & co. have decided to switch their focus towards Vlahovic. As per the aforementioned report, the Cityzens are already in conversations with the 21-year-old striker over the possibility of a summer switch.

Vlahovic, for his part, seems keen on a move to the Etihad as he is willing to turn down Fiorentina’s latest contract proposal and bid goodbye to the club.

This is quite a surprising turn of events, considering that Manchester City seemed set to go hell for leather in their pursuit of Kane. With them now switching attention to Vlahovic, it will certainly be interesting to see how this entire transfer saga unfolds and who ends up where. An interesting end to the summer transfer window beckons.
