Arsenal have reportedly reopened talks to sign 23-year-old English shot stopper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United this summer.

According to a report by The Athletic, Arsenal are back in talks with Sheffield United over a potential move for Aaron Ramsdale over a move before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Blades seem to have reduced their valuation of the 23-year-old goalkeeper, who is keen on joining the Gunners.

Aaron Ramsdale joined Sheffield United from Bournemouth last summer following the Cherries’ relegation to the Championship. Unfortunately for the Englishman, he suffered relegation for a second successive season, with the Blades now down in the second-tier of English football.

While he himself has flattered to deceive at times, the 23-year-old goalkeeper fared decently for the most part between the sticks last term. To date, Ramsdale has made 46 appearances for Sheffield United while keeping just eight clean sheets in the process. However, despite a forgettable record in goal, he seems to have done something to impress Arsenal.

Indeed, the north Londoners have been hot on the trails of the English goalkeeper for the better part of the summer transfer window, as they remain in a precarious situation over the future of current no. 1 Bernd Leno. The German shot stopper’s contract has two years left to run out and there has been no movement on the renewal front.

It was also briefly suggested that Leno could well be on his way out of Arsenal following their failure to qualify for Europe this season in addition to the player himself making some high-profile errors. The German international, though, has stayed put since then, meaning Ramsdale will arrive as a backup option to begin with.

Arsenal have indeed been left unimpressed by Runar Alex Runarsson, which has forced them to enter the market for a goalkeeper. However, Arsenal had to temporarily cede pursuit of Ramsdale, owing to Sheffield United’s £35 million asking price.

However, the 23-year-old himself is pushing for a move the Emirates, which could well have forced the Blades’ hand, seeing as they have lowered their demands. The talks now seem to be progressing well and Arsenal are hopeful of signing Ramsdale soon enough. What now remains to be seen is if the discussions continue without a snag or if some obstacle presents itself again.
