Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku, who has penned a five-year deal after completing his move from Inter Milan.

Chelsea have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. The 28-year-old Belgian international has signed a five-year contract with the Blues running through to June 30, 2026.

Romelu Lukaku has already represented three of the biggest clubs in Europe despite still being in his peak years at the moment. The player first broke onto the scene at Anderlecht before making his way to Chelsea. However, his first stint with the Blues was far from successful, with his major breakthrough instead coming at Everton.

The 28-year-old then made his way to Manchester United, where he endured a bit of a hit and miss stint before really stepping up upon joining Inter Milan. And in the last two years, Lukaku has gone on to establish himself as one of the best forwards on show in the world, managing a tally of 64 goals and 16 assists in 95 outings while playing a pivotal role in their Serie A triumph last term.

His progress at Inter Milan piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the continent, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea all being linked with him in the last few months. However, Chelsea, in particular, had been intent on securing his services, with the Blues stepping up their efforts to land him towards the end of July.

Soon, it became clear that Lukaku was eager to seal a return to Chelsea, whose need to sign a top class striker was urgent following a campaign wherein Jorginho was their top scorer in the Premier League. With Timo Werner being far from prolific and Tammy Abraham being deemed to be surplus to requirements, signing a player like Lukaku did become imperative.

Soon enough, Chelsea reached an agreement to sign Lukaku, who has now completed his return to the west London club, expressing his delight post the announcement. The Belgian striker said, “I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club. It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.”

“The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling. The way the club is going fits my ambitions perfectly at 28 and just coming off winning Serie A. I think this opportunity comes at the right time and hopefully we can have a lot of success together.”

As per Sky Sports, Chelsea have shattered their transfer record to land Lukaku, paying £97.5 million for his services. A new phase now beckons Lukaku in his career and it will be interesting to see if he can finally enjoy a successful stint at Stamford Bridge.
