Tottenham are interested in signing Ismaila Sarr, although Watford’s huge asking price could prove to be a problem for the north London side.

According to Eurosport, Tottenham are keen to sign Ismaila Sarr in this window to bolster their attack for the new season. Watford are reluctant to sell their star performer and have reportedly demanded £50 million, which could pose problems for Spurs to complete the transfer.

Watford were smart to snap up Ismaila Sarr from Rennes two years ago in a deal costing the Hornets £20 million. Despite the 23-year-old Senegalese star’s good performances that season, Watford were relegated from the Premier League and somehow held on to him.

His 13 goals in the Championship helped the Hornets gain promotion in the first time of asking, and the club feel lucky to have him for the new season still. However, plenty of big clubs were interested in signing the winger last summer, even as the Hornets held on.

Liverpool and Manchester United were the main contenders for his signature, but Watford’s huge asking price proved to be rather problematic. The Reds eventually signed up Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while United kept faith in Mason Greenwood.

This summer, the interested party seems to be Tottenham, who are looking to bolster their attack for the new season. They have endured a very gloomy atmosphere for most of the summer due to the Harry Kane saga, which may still rumble on. Spurs were targeting a host of attackers to either play alongside Kane or to replace him.

Sarr is of interest, with Nuno Espirito Santo desperate to get a right-sided winger. His current options include Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, who have not been up to scratch or the Portuguese’s liking. The manager would like someone with fresh ideas, and the 23-year-old Senegalese seem to fit the bill.

Elsewhere, there is also talk of a move for Lautaro Martinez. A deal for the Argentine could prove to be difficult for Spurs as there is tough competition from Arsenal, who are ready to pay him a huge salary. In Sarr’s case, there is no competition as of now, and Spurs will have a free run at the Watford star if they quickly make their move.

However, Watford’s £50 million asking price could become a problem, as Tottenham may not agree to pay that much. Sarr, who is a proven quantity in the Premier League and the Championship, could be a good attacking option for the north London side.

Spurs could close the deal if they pay Watford’s demand, although Daniel Levy will try to negotiate the price and bring it down to a reasonable sum. The Hornets will likely stick to their guns, as they do not need to sell, and with that in mind, it remains to be seen if the 23-year-old makes his way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
